OGH Reports – Contents from Latest Issue

Oncology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology Reports [OGH Reports] (ISSN : 2278 – 8921) aims to explore the areas of Cancer research and gastrointestinal tract including the liver. The journal is envisioned as a platform for basic and translational researchers, clinicians and students to publish their original research, review articles and case reports.

Endoscopic band ligation for peptic ulcer bleed

Endoscopic band ligation is commonly used to treat variceal bleeding; the use of band ligation has only been described in selected cases of nonvariceal bleeding. We describe the successful use of endoscopic band ligation to arrest bleeding in two cases of duodenal ulcer hemorrhage. This to our knowledge is only the fourth such report of endoscopic band ligation in English medical literature. Case Presentation: We report the cases of a 47-year-old male and a 32-year-old female presenting with upper GI bleed who were successfully managed by endoscopic band ligation. Conclusion: EBL is an effective, safe and economical endoscopic treatment for acute peptic ulcer bleeding. Larger studies in patients with acute peptic ulcer bleeding are needed to confirm these promising results.........

Primary diffuse large B cell lymphoma of spleen mimicking splenic abscess – a case report

Primary splenic lymphoma is defined as generalized lymphoma with splenic involvement as the dominant feature. Primary splenic lymphoma is an infrequent disease. It comprises less than 1% of the all malignant lymphoma. We present a case of 55 years old male with fever, pain and lump in abdomen of 1 month duration. The purpose of this paper is to report a rare occurrence of primary splenic lymphoma and to demonstrate the possibility of it misdiagnosed as splenic abscess clinically and on imaging.

Osseous metaplasia in rectal and appendicular carcinoma: A diagnostic dilemma?

Heterotopic bone formation also known as osseous metaplasia is an uncommon finding in benign and malignant gastrointestinal tumors. It has been described in adenocarcinoma lung, carcinoma breast, thyroid, parotid and pancreas. The overall incidence is approximately 0.4% as suggested by Dukes. Rare case of esophageal adenocarcinoma associated with group B Streptococcal bacteremia

Esophageal cancer is a highly aggressive malignancy that can often present at an advanced stage. While alcohol and smoking are known risk factors, the role of micro-organisms is relatively unknown. Here, we present a case of a patient with group B Streptococcus bacteremia who was diagnosed with esophageal adenocarcinoma incidentally following recovery from the bacterial infection.
